8th (King’s Royal Irish) Hussars Edwardian Officer pouch and belt circa 1901-10. Good scarce example with scarlet melton cloth face, bordered with Russia braid, bearing gold wire embroidered Maid of Erin Harp surmounted by Royal Crest superimposed on silver wire ER; eight battle honours multi part scroll entwined with shamrocks and motto scroll. Complete with red Morocco leather covered zinc box pouch and gilt metal belt loops ... gold shamrock lace scarlet lined pouch belt with gilt metal Ed VII buckle tip and slide. Service wear generally GC. .... Accompanied by a contemporary mounted miniature medal group of five medals comprising: QSA, KSA, 1914/15 Star, BWM, VM. (2 Parts)
The vendor believes the pouch to have been worn by a Captain William Percy Armitage MC who was born in Christchurch New Zealand, educated at Wellington College he was Commissioned into the 8th Hussars 1906 and served at Campbell Barracks, Dilkusha, Lucknow, India. He retired, but rejoined the colours in September 1914, being Commissioned into the 7th Dragoon Guards. He was awarded the MC for operations in Palestine 1918.
