Irish Kilkenny Fusilier Militia Victorian glengarry badge circa 1874-81.
Good scarce die-stamped white metal crowned strap KILKENNY; flaming grenade to voided centre. Loops. VGC Raised at Kilkenny 1793, saw active service during the 1798 Irish Rebellion. It fought at the Battles of New Ross and Vinegar Hill. The whole Regiment fought the French at Castlebar. Redesignated Kilkenny Fusilier Militia by 1855, Became 5th Battalion Royal Irish Regiment on Friday 1st July, 1881.
