Royal Navy Victorian Mid 19th Century Officer Cocked Hat. A very rare example attributed to Surgeon John Scott Davidson Royal Navy. Fine black beaver skin Tall (9 inches) cocked hat, to the left side a black silk rosette with a loop of gilt lace with a single gilt lace central line, these mounted with a gilt Victorian button to the centre. The interior is with leather sweatband with ink name J.S. Davidson. Crimson silk pleated lining, with gilt tooled tailor label for Gillott & Hasell Naval Tailors 36 Strand London. Slight wear GC. Complete with original japanned storage tin. This with brass engraved name plate J S Davidson RN and with matching tailors details as to the hat. Attributed to Surgeon John Scott Davidson Royal Navy. In 1839 he was serving as an Assistant Surgeon onboard HMS Volage a sixth-rate sailing frigate and was present at the capture of Aden 1839 and also in China 1840. He was serving in 1866 as a Surgeon with seniority 5th February 1858.
