21st (Empress of Indias) Lancers Victorian lance cap. A scarce example of an Other Rank lance cap. Patent leather body, peak and crown with ornate gilt metal fleur bosses to each corner. Victorian Regimental lance plate to front with one Battle Honour KHARTOUM. Lion’s head bosses support brass chin chain with leather backing. Woollen cord boss with replacement Victorian button. Leather and waxed cotton lining to the interior. The helmet with some storage and age wear. Evidence of more than one plate having been worn. Lining damaged, plume absent. Distorted,  stitching faults to chinchain. Converted from Hussars to 21st Lancers on 31st March 1897. redesignated 21st (Empress of Indias) Lancers in December 1898
