39th Foot (Dorsetshire) 1843 Gwalior Star. Reverse engraved Ord Room Segt Joseph Cheese H M 39th Regt. The reverse with contemporary clip for a ring attachment to the ribbon bar. GC. The 39th Regiment under the command of Thomas Wright CB landed in India in 1839. At the Battle of Maharajpoor Wright commanded a Brigade and had his horse shot from under him.
