Austrian senior railway official's cocked hat. Good scarce example of black silk with wide black watered silk binding to both edges. Loop of gold lace 3 cm. wide woven with a pattern of railway wheels. In lieu of any button, lower end of loop bears a device in wire embroidery and orange cloth of a wheel with two wings. Gold worked boss at each end of the bicorne has orange centre bearing in gold embroidery a stylised eagle. Interior has roan headband and 4 small loops for a detachable wide chinstrap (not fitted) and bears retailer's details (M.Wolf, Mariahilfer Str. Wien) stamped in gold. Hat is complete with a shaped fabric case bearing, inside, an elaborate trade label.
