Imperial Austrian General’s Cocked Hat. Fine scarce black silk example edged on both sides with 3 in. wide gold lace of ‘Austrian’ pattern. The loop of narrower gold lace, fastened by a burnished gilt General Officer's button. In each corner, a worked gold boss with black velvet centre bearing the cypher of Franz Josef. Pale roan leather headband and pleated cream silk lining with maker's details. Together with its drooping green feather plume of the distinctive Austrian style. Provision for a detachable chinstrap for occasional use (not fitted). Generally VGC. See Lot 515 for associated greatcoat.
