Badge. Scottish. 3rd Stirlingshire (Falkirk) Rifle Volunteers, Victorian glengarry badge circa 1860-80. Very rare cast brass crowned circular strap BE RIGHT BE READY AND DEFEND. The strap has two flowing ends joined by thistle sprays and a shield. In the centre a moorland background with a Highland soldier carrying a sword and grasping a standard in the foreground. Original pin back. GC. The Highland soldier motif appears on the seal of the Burgh of Falkirk. The very simple arms on the shield are of great antiquity, but as the “metal” and “colour” are not shown, a family connection cannot be deduced.
