2nd Life Guards Edwardian Uniform of Lt. Col. Sir Morgan Crofton Bt. An extremely rare Edwardian uniform tailored by Rodgers & Company of London comprising: Scarlet tunic of melton cloth with dark blue velvet facings to the collar and gauntlet cuffs. Each richly decorated with gold bullion embroidery. This arrangement can also be found to the rear skirt. Complete with regimental buttons and the interior with quilted lining. Tailors label with ink name Sir Morgan Crofton. Scarlet and bullion fresh small amount of surface moth traces not effecting the appearance. Cuirass of regimental pattern. Both front and back plate with crimson leather lining with stamped initials MGC. Complete with regimental shoulder scales and gold bullion waist belt. Clean condition. Waist belt Gold bullion lace of regimental pattern set onto a dark blue leather belt. Complete with waist belt clasp. Bullion bright GC. Pouch Belt & Pouch. The 2 3/4 inch lace of regimental pattern set against a Morocco red leather. Complete with blue flash cord and gilt buckle, tip and slide. The pouch of large size black patent leather mounted with a regimental device. Traces of storage paper to pouch. Sword Slings dark blue leather with gold lace of regimental pattern Various straps etc. Helmet white plume, this contained in original special shaped storage tin The overall condition is good, the tunic is stored in a large square japanned storage tin (possibly for a shabraque). The cuirass is stored in original shaped Japanned storage tin. The Pouch Belt is also contained in original storage tin. Each storage tin with Hawkes & Co plaque also brass engraved name plate Sir Morgan Crofton Bart. 2nd Life Guards (Quantity) Sir Morgan George Crofton, 6th Baronet of Mohill Castle, Co. Leitrim, Ireland. (27.11.1879-8.12.1958). Educated at Rugby. Entered Army from Militia as 2nd Lieutenant, 2nd Bn. Lancashire Fusiliers in 1899. Served in South Africa 1899-1901 and was severely wounded in the Relief of Ladysmith. Transferred to Irish Guards 1901 then to 2nd Life Guards 1903. Served in WW1 (DSO 1918, Belgium Order of Leopold, France Legion of Honour, Mentioned in Despatches twice). Provost Marshal of the East African Expeditionary Force. On the HQ Staff of General Smuts 1917. Major in 1918 Guards Machine Gun Regiment. Colonel-Commandant on Staff to Military Advisor to Northern Ireland Government of 1922; High Sheriff for Hampshire 1925-26. During WW2 he raised and commanded 28th Bn. Home Guard, Hampshire Regiment 1940-44. JP for Hampshire. Known for The Crofton Diaries Ypres 1914-1915.
