Georgian East India Company early 19th Century Officer's gorget. Good scarce gilt on copper crescent with raised rim turned over wire frame, the centre part engraved with the Company’s Arms. Plain shoulders, each with suspension hole. Traces only of gilt, service wear. The gorget for the British Army was abolished by William IV in August 1830 but permitted to be worn by Officers at home up to Christmas 1831 and up to 1832 by those abroad; this was followed shortly afterwards by HEIC Officers.
