Trench art RAF lighter, the reverse with memorial inscription. Sergeant Richard Leslie Lloyd of Swansea enlisted into the RAF and volunteered for aircrew training as a Wireless Operator Air Gunner. His log book records his first flight on the 1st January 1941 at RAF Yatesbury. Completing his training at 11 OTU he joined B Flight 57 Squadron operating the Wellington Bomber. His first trip was on the 25th June 1942 to Bremen. By the night of the 26th July 1942, his 9th and final operation would be to Hamburg, it appears he and his crew were shot down in the target area, as he now rests in Hamburg Cemetery.
