WW2 RAF Bomber Command Aircrew Europe Star Medal and Log Book Group. Awarded to Flight Lieutenant L.B Dower, who completed a full tour of operations with 420 Squadron. Comprising: Medal Group: 1939/45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, War Medal. Medals Loose. Aircrew Log Book detailing 31 operations as a rear gunner, with photographs of Dower as a Sergeant and an Officer. Service and Release book. Flight Lieutenant L.B Dower volunteered for aircrew and was selected as an air gunner, his log book notes his first flight on the 16th September 1943. At 24 OTU now a qualified Rear Gunner he teamed up with Squadron Leader G. McKenna as his pilot (Who would later command 420 Squadron). He would follow his pilot to a posting with 420 Squadron in January 1944 and he flew his first Op to Stuttgart on the 20th February. A steady flow of operations followed with his 10th trip on the 6th June D-Day listed as “Coutances” Bridge Busting. His 13th op a nerve racking number for any bomber crew but more so on this occasion as he was briefed for a daylight raid with a fighter escort to Boulougne. He flew his 31st operation on the 12th October 1944 completing his tour. Commissioned Pilot Officer in February 1945 he was posted to Athens and flew with Transport command, his log records a number flights his duty noted as Nav, WOP/AG and 2nd Pilot flying in an Anson. He was released from the RAF in 1947.
