1st Life Guards Officer state sword of Robert Lindsay Lloyd OBE MC A scarce George V period example by Wilkinson of London. The single edged 37 1/2 inch blade with etched decoration, The obverse depicting crowned GvR Cypher, the reverse with the regimental device and battle honours, the last being Paardeberg. Etched to the forte, the cutlers details of Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall; the blade is numbered 58227. The polished steel guard is mounted with entwined gilt metal letters L.G , with 1 to the centre, surmounted by a crown and bearing gilt metal stud decoration. Shagreen grip with twist wire binding and complete with scarlet and buff leather lining to the guard. Housed in original steel scabbard with gilt metal mounts and loose rings. The blade remains in good clean condition, etching clear. Near VGC Major Robert Lindsey Lloyd was educated at Eton and was commissioned into the 16th Lancers in 1911. He served during the Great War with the Regiment in France landing in August 1914. He was awarded the MC in 1916 and the OBE 1919. Remaining with the Army after the end of the war he exchanged to the 1st Life Guards 1919 and in 1930 held the rank of Major. He also saw service during WW2 as second I/C 152nd Officer Cadet Training Unit. The sword was purchased from Wilkinson on the 12th July 1920 by Captain R Llloyd 1st Life Guards
