WW1 Officer Royal West Kent Regiment Long Service Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal Group Awarded to Quartermaster & Lieutenant Harry Wood whose act of gallantry in the Simla Hills India resulted in the award of the RHS Bronze Medal.
Comprising: British War Medal QM & LIEUT H WOOD, Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (GvR) 4874 SJT H. WOOD R.W. KENT R (slight corrosion to suspender), Royal Humane Society Medal Bronze COY SERGT MAJOR H. WOOD 14 JUNE 1916 (heavy corrosion, suspender detached). Medal loose, no ribbons. On the 14th June 1916, a man of the Royal West Kent Regt. in trying to ford a river in the Simla Hills, India, got into a dangerous position in 10 to 12 feet of water. Wood went in and with difficulty got him out in an exhausted state.
Quartermaster & Lieutenant Harry Wood landed in Mesopotamia on the 29th June 1916 after service in India. He was commissioned QM & Lieutenant into the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. The MIC confirms the RHS Bronze medal awarded in 1924 and indicates the award of the Victory Medal.
