WW2 RAF Bomber Command Aircrew Europe Star Casualty Group of Medals. Awarded to Pilot Officer Richard Edward Bragg a pilot of 78 Squadron who was shot down on the 14th May 1943 by Helmut Lent, the second highest German night fighter ace with 102 night kills.
Comprising: 1939/45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, War Medal. Accompanied by Condolence forwarding slip typed name PILOT OFFICER R.E. BRAGG. These are contained in the original medal forwarding box addressed to Mrs A Bragg (Mother) of Nuthall Nottinghamshire. The group is complemented by a British War Medal and Victory Medal M2-102390 PTE R.E BRAGG ASC (Father). Pilot Officer Richard Edward Bragg an experienced pilot of 78 Squadron which flew the Halifax Bomber was tasked with operations to Bochum on the night of the 13/14 May 1943. Taking off from RAF Linton-on-Ouse his aircraft was attacked by Helmut Lent and shot down over Holleweg Wijnaldum.
