WW2 RAF 76 Squadron Navigator Casualty Log Book and Group of Medals. Awarded to 1481558 Flight Sergeant Roland Golding a veteran of 11 trips, including 4 to the Big City Berlin, who was lost on air operations to Stuttgart on the night of the 16th March 1944.

SAAF Observer's or Air Gunner's Log Book covering the period July 1942 to 16th March 1944, listing training and operational flying. Flight Sergeant Roland Golding a native of Coed Mawr, Caernarvon enlisted into the RAF and volunteered for aircrew training. Posted to South Africa he started training with NO. 47 Air School and made his first flight on the 24th July 1942. Qualifying as a Navigator he returned to the UK and after further training joined 76 Squadron operating the Handley Page Halifax bomber out of RAF Holme-on-Spalding Moor. He flew his first operation on the 3rd November 1943 with a 4 hour 50 min run to Dusseldorf. A steady flow of 10 operations followed with Berlin visited on 4 occasions. On the night of the 15/16th March along with his crew he was briefed for an op to Stuttgart, over the target area he was shot down by a night fighter. Originally reported missing a letter from the Air Ministry dated 3rd January 1945 informed his wife he had been Killed in Action.
