WW2 RAF Bomber Command 619 Squadron Medals, Logbook, Goldfish Club Archive. Issued to WOP/AG Warrant Officer Robert Gordon Faux, who completed 35 Operations.
Comprising:
1939/45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, War Medal, these contained in original forwarding box with Air Ministry forwarding slip. ... Observer and Air Gunners Logbook covering the period June 1942 to April 1945. ... Goldfish Membership Card named to F/Sgt R G Faux 16th September 1942. ... Selection of original photographs including crew shots and official photographs of a Battleship possibly the Tirpitz. Warrant Officer Robert Gordon Faux from Hinckley joined the RAF in September 1940 and volunteered for aircrew qualifying as a Wireless Operator / Air Gunner. He joined 207 Squadron flying Lancaster Bombers and flew his first operation with them on the 28th March 1943 to St Nazaire. He would fly a further 3 ops with 207 before transferring to 619 Squadron based at RAF Scampton and flew to Dusseldorf on the 11th June 1943. A steady flow of operations followed with Turin on the 6th July 1943 a round trip of 11 hours and one German fighter in the bag. On the 17th August the target was Peenemunde with another fighter in the bag. On the 17th September he was tasked with a raid on the Viaduct at Antheor. Over the target his Lancaster was hit by flak resulting in the loss of fuel. Lost in cloud they found themselves over Spain, not enough fuel to get back to England or press on to Gibraltar. Ditching off the Portuguese coast he earned his place as a member of the Goldfish Club. repatriated he retuned to the UK on the 21st October 1943 and rejoined his Squadron in December flying an op to Berlin on New Years Day 1944. His log records his final trip on the 20th February 1944 to Stuttgart. He then served at various units as a Screened WOP and flew for the last time on the 12th April 1945, thus completing 675 flying hours and 35 Ops.
