Czech WW2 Attributed RAF Pilot Silver Breast Wings Badge & Certificate. A rare pair presented to Squadron Leader J.G.D. Armour in 1941. The good silver and gilt example by Spink & Son of London. Three hooks to the reverse which is stamped SILVER. Contained in original red leather and velvet lined case ... Accompanied by Pilot Badge certificate with typed name S/Ldr J.G.O. Armour. Dated 1941. GC Wing Commander J.G.D. Armour ADC was born in 1904 and entered the RAF as an Officer Cadet in 1923, being commissioned into the RAF in 1925. He served with 111 Squadron in 1926 as a display pilot and in 1930 was appointed ADC to the Duke of Windsor later King Edward VIII. He transferred to the RAF Reserve in May 1933 due to ill health and was recalled in August 1939. He qualified as a flying instructor and was posted to No. 9 Advanced Flying Unit, it was possibly here that he was presented with his Czech Pilot Wings for his work with Free Czech Pilots. In 1942 his was posted for instruction duties to Canada and the following year, he was serving with Ferry Command and resigned his commission in October 1945. The Imperial War Museum online collection holds a number of wartime press photographs of him, in flying kit.
