Leicestershire Militia Victorian Officer quilted shako circa 1869-1878. Good scarce example of dark blue cloth covered dished crown and body ornamented with silver lace and braid indicating the wearer to be a Major; horizontal patent leather peak. Crimson silk lined and with buff leather sweatband. The crown bearing white over red ball tuft / pompom resting in its silvered 1861 pattern holder. Silvered rose head bosses support the velvet lined chinchain; lion mask and hook to reverse. Front bears crowned laurel sprays enclosing mounted fretted LEICESTERSHIRE MILITIA circlet and VR cypher to lightly domed centre. Housed in its original japanned shaped transit / storage tin complete with carrying handle, hasp and staple. Slight age wear and minor stitching faults but generally VGC.
