Leicester Militia Georgian Officer Regency shako circa 1822. Fine important example of bell shaped black beaver with patent leather dished crown and peak. The body ornamented with 2 inch silver lace of regimental pattern around the top and lower body strap. Crimson cloth lined crown and with wide crimson Morocco leather sweatband. The crown bearing white over red drooping plume with long whalebone stem. Silvered lion head bosses support the velvet lined graduated chin scales. Front bears silvered Garter star mounted with gilt crowned LEICESTER MILITIA strap and centrally voided silvered GR cypher. The chinscales rise diagonally across the front to be fastened around the black velvet cockade with central domed silver button (bearing star, title and 36) adorning the silver lace around the crown.
