Fine rare large unmarked silver oval hollow plate with raised rim incised with strap CERTAVI ET VICI1 with central Mermaid over crown; reverse within roped border GIVEN BY GENERAL SMITH TO THE SHANNON SEA FENCIBLES A REWARD FOR SKILL AT GUN PRACTICE 1796. Tear drop suspension loop. (Approx. 80 x 57 mms.). Minor wear. VGC Shannon Sea Fencibles raised Co. Wicklow, commanded by Captain Robert Whitmore appointed 20.7.1803.
