4th Queen’s Own Hussars Victorian Officer Busby. A scarce example of dark brown soft fur, with yellow bag bearing three lines of gold Russia braid and gold gimp button. To the front, a gold gimp oval cockade and three gold cords to the body. To the interior, leather sweatband with crimson silk lining, this with gilt tooled maker’s details of Hawkes & Co. Complete with velvet backed fire gilt gimp chin chain. Stitching faults to the chin chain, otherwise GC. Plume absent. The 14th Hussars also wear a busby with yellow bag, but without cockade.
