Petty Officer Henry Port was born at Portsea Hampshire 1851 ant the age of 15 he joined the Royal Navy and served as a Boy onboard HMS Boscowen, in 1879 he was serving onboard HMS Euphrates one of four troopships and earned the South Africa Medal. The following year, he was admitted into the Haslar Hospital and was discharged in July of that year. He had therefore served 11 years “Man Time” with the service
