WW2 1942 RAF Bomber Command Aircrew Europe Star Casualty Group of Medals. Awarded to Sergeant Ewart John Andrews a Wireless Operator Air Gunner of 18 Squadron who was shot down on the 7th May 1942 as the first kill of Heinrich Prinz Zu Sayn-Wittgenstein, the third highest German night fighter ace with 83 night kills.
Comprising: 1939/45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, War Medal. Accompanied by Condolence forwarding slip typed name SERGEANT E.J. ANDREWS. These are contained in the original medal forwarding box addressed to Mrs M.F. ANDREWS CHRISTCHURCH HANTS. Also Buckingham Palace Condolence Card, 2 x Air Gunners Brevet Badges and a Wireless Operators Badge. 1190685 Sergeant Ewart John Andrews a Wireless Operator Air Gunner was posted to 18 Squadron operating the Bristol Blenheim twin engined bomber. On the night of the 7th May 1942 he and his crew were briefed for a night intruder operation. West of Walcheren Island Zeeland Holland they were intercepted and shot down, crashing into the North Sea and now are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
