(CO David Tyrie Laing's initials) superimposed on square with short arms bearing SAFF (South African Field Force) with 1900 below all resting on scroll SPES BONA; R to voided centre (Lord Roberts). Brass wire loops. GC 100 strong unit raised in January 1900 in Cape Colony by Major Laing. January 1901 suffered appalling casualties at Lindley, OFS.
