WW1 RAF 31 Squadron Observers Group of 6 Medals. Awarded to Flying Officer Norman Burke who had served in the ranks of the 9th London Regiment before being commissioned into the OX & Bucks, attached RFC and then later on the North West Frontier with the RAF.
Comprising: 1914/15 Star 3911 PTE N BURKE 9-LOND R, British War Medal, Victory Medal MID, 2 LIEUT N BURKE RAF, India General Service Medal, clasp AFGHANISTAN NWF 1919, F/O N BURKE RAF (Medal officially re-impressed in small letters.), Defence Medal, War Medal. ... Accompanied by a Miniature Medal group mounted as originally worn and contained in a leather case gilt tooled to the lid NORMAN BURKE ... Also a personal ID tag stamped CAPT N BURKE. Flying Officer Norman Burke originally served with the 9th Bn London Regiment and landed in France on the 6th June 1915. He was commissioned into the 3rd Bn OX & Bucks on the 28th November 1917 and was attached to the Royal Flying Corps. Qualifying as an Observer he was posted to 31 Squadron in India December 1918 and remains with 31 until September 1919 when he was transferred to the unemployed list.
