Bedfordshire Royal Engineers OBE, MC, TD, Gold Russian Order of Stanislaus Group of Seven Medals. Awarded to Major George Croxton Walker OBE, MC, TD, who was commissioned into the 1st Bedfordshire Volunteers Engineers and served during the Great War with the 1st East Anglian Brigade, before volunteering for service in North Russia 1919, being awarded the OBE and the Order of Stanislaus.
Comprising:
Order of the British Empire (Military HM 1919), Military Cross, 1914/15 Star "CAPT RE", British War Medal, Victory Medal,, MID Oakleaf, "MAJOR", Territorial Decoration (GVR HM London 1922), Order of Stanislaus with Swords (stamped 'AK' for Albert Keibel of Saint Petersburg). The group remains as originally worn last medal detached from ribbon. Major George Croxton Walker OBE, MC, TD was born in Bedford and served in the ranks of the Volunteer Engineers before being commissioned into the 1st Bedford VE in 1907. At the outbreak of the Great War he was serving as a Captain with the 1st East Anglian Field Company officially landing in France on Christmas Day 1914. Promoted Major he served with the 1st Bridging Company RE and in 1919 volunteered for service in North Russia. Returning to his home town of Bedford he was appointed a partner in the family business as an auctioneer and died in 1936.
