Leicestershire Yeomanry Cavalry Victorian Officer helmet circa 1853-73. Good rare example, the black jacked leather skull surmounted by special regimental pattern spike with supports a white horsehair plume with rose head boss. To the front, a silvered plate comprising a crowned star with squared points resting on a tri-part scroll PRINCE ALBERTS OWN; to the centre, within an oak wreath, LYC on a lined ground. The rim of the skull with silver trim, silver backstrap. Two lion head bosses support a silvered gimp chain chin. Lining absent, spike reinforced. GC This pattern of helmet was introduced to the regiment circa 1853, it was replace by the Busby in 1873.
