1st (Exeter & South Devon) Rifle Volunteers pouch belt plate badge c. 1859-1901. Good scarce die-stamped lightly silvered crowned oval strap EXETER & SOUTH DEVON with 1ST / VOLUNTEER / RIFLES / 1852 to finely seeded centre; below the strap, an ornate scroll SEMPER FIDELIS. Three flat lugs. VGC Originally raised in May 1852, accepted by Horse Guards 23rd September 1959 as 1st Devonshire Rifle Volunteers (Exeter and South Devon). Became 1st VB Devonshire Regiment on 1st November 1885 and the plate continued in use.
