Irish Kilkenny Regiment of Militia 19th century shoulder belt plate. Good rare die-stamped brass rectangular plate with rounded corners bearing crowned strap with Maid of Erin Harp to centre. Reverse hook and two studs now absent otherwise GC. The Kilkenny Militia saw active serve during the 1798 Irish Rebellion. It fought at the Battles of New Ross and Vinegar Hill. The whole Regiment fought the French at Castlebar. Gordon Cummings Collection.
