Badge. Scottish. Buteshire Rifle Volunteers Victorian helmet plate circa 1878-80. Good rare die-stamped blackened brass crowned Maltese cross, lions between the arms, bearing title circlet; Prince of Wales's plumes, coronet and motto to voided centre. Three loops. VGC 1st Buteshire Rifle Volunteers formed 19th January 1860 at Rothesay. In 1863 came under 1st AB Renfrewshire RV which was consolidated in 1880 when 1st Buteshire became its “I” Company. 1st Renfrew redesignated 1st VB Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in December 1887.
