46th Foot (South Devon) Officer’s shoulder belt plate circa 1830-55. A fine and scarce pre 1855 example. Rectangular burnished gilt plate mounted with cut silver star in turn mounted with gilt SOUTH DEVON strap resting in laurel and palm sprays bearing DOMINICA scroll; gilt 46 to silver domed centre. Two hooks and two studs with original leather backing (now dry and fragile). Gilt on backing plate worn, the remainder fresh and VGC. (Parkyn 272) Dominica honour granted to the Regiment 9th February 1808. Regiment became 2nd Bn. Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry in 1881.
