4th Bn North Staffordshire Regiment Commanding Officer's Camp Flag. Boer War Period A rare example attributed to Honorary Colonel Richard Mirehouse CMG who commanded the Battalion during its service in South Africa.
Comprising: Heavy cotton / linen flag with original painted decoration of the Regimental device with title 4th N STAFF REGT and CO. This example with stitched strengthening to two of the corners. Mounted into an ebonized wood frame (No Glass). Some moth not effecting the overall appearance, colours bright Size 24 x 36 inches ... Accompanied a large framed photographic portrait of Lt Col. Hon Col. Richard Mirehouse half length wearing full dress uniform of the North Staffordshire Regiment and wearing the CMG, QSA & KSA Medals. Contained in original oak glazed frame. Size 20 x 24 inches.
(2 items) Honorary Colonel Richard Mirehouse CMG took command of the 4th Bn North Staffordshire Regiment HQ Lichfield in 1898. At the outbreak of the Boer War he took his Battalion to South Africa 24 Officers and 546 Ranks on the 24th January 1900 and undertook duties in the Cape Colony. Returning for South Africa he continued to Command the Battalion until 1905.
