WW1 HMS Indefatigable Battle of Jutland Officer Casualty Medal Group. Awarded to Engineering Lieutenant Commander Patrick John King, who was killed when his ship HMS Indefatigable blew up at the Battle of Jutland. 1914/15 Star (ENG LT CR P J KING RN), Victory Medal (ENG LT CR RN), Bronze Memorial Plaque PATRICK JOHN KING. Engineering Lieutenant Commander Patrick John King served as an Engineer Cadet for 5 years before being promoted to an Engineering Sub Lieutenant in 1903. He was assigned to HMS Indefatigable in June 1913 and was promoted to Lt Cdr in November 1914. He was onboard her when on the 31st May 1916 she was hit by shells from the German battlecruiser Von der Tann caused an explosion ripping a hole in her hull, and a second explosion hurled large pieces of the ship 200 feet (60 m) in the air. Only three of the crew of 1,019 survived.
