108th (Madras Infantry) Regiment Victorian Officer’s helmet plate badge c. 1878-81. Fine and scarce gilt crowned star pattern mounted with laurel sprays bearing a bi-part scroll CENTRAL INDIA. To the centre, 108 on crimson old replacement felt within a strap MADRAS INFANTRY enclosed in further laurel sprays. Three loops. VGC Became 2nd Bn. Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers on Friday 1st July, 1881. During the period this plate was worn, the regiment was commanded by Lt.Col. Henry Ernest Thesiger Williams; succeeded by Lt.Col. Henry Lock in June 1880. Both were given rank of Hon. Major-General. Provenance. Ex Hugh King Collection, Bosleys.
