Irish North Mayo Militia Victorian Officer waist belt clasp circa 1856-81. Good rare silver-plated interlocking example by J & Co (Jennens) with matching bench marks to each half. Circlet inscribed NORTH MAYO MILITIA; seeded centre mounted with crowned VR cypher. Universal pattern rococo ends. Service wear. GC Raised 1763 at Castlebar; 1817 HQ at Ballina; circa 1855 redesignated North Mayo Fusiliers Militia. 1.7.1881 merged with the South Mayo Militia as 3rd Bn Connaught Rangers.
