WW1 9th Bn Durham Light Infantry Triple Gallantry Military Medal & Bar, Croix de Guerre Group of Six.

Awarded to “325036 SJT C.F. HUTTON 9-DURH. L.I.”. Comprising: Military Medal & Bar “1202 SJT C.F. HUTTON 9/DURH.L.I - TF”, 1914/15 Star, “CPL DURH LI”, British War Medal, Victory Medal, “SJT DURH LI”, Territorial Force Efficiency Medal (GVR) “325036 SJT 9-DURH LI”, French Croix de Guerre. Mounted for display, with a quantity of research.

Military Medal London Gazette 27 October 1916. Bar to the Military Medal. London Gazette 11 December 1918. Croix de Guerre London Gazette 7 October 1919. Sergeant Charles Frederick Hutton was a native of Gateshead and enlisted as a Territorial on the 6th May 1911. Mobilised at the outbreak of the Great War he landed in France with the 9th Bn on the 20th April 1915. Volunteering as a stretcher bearer it was reported that he worked for six days bringing in wounded and attending them. He is also reported as when most of the Stretcher Bears had been wounded he reorganised and continued to work under heavy enemy fire. In September 1918 he was reported as wounded and his hospital ship was Torpedoed; with a broken arm and other wounds he was evacuated from the ship. He was discharged with the award of the Silver War Badge on the 5th June 1919. The 9th Bn of the Durham Light Infantry were awarded two Victoria Crosses, Brigadier Roland Boys Bradford VC., MC. and Sergeant Thomas Young VC.
