4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards 1918 HM Presentation Silver Serving Tray. This Magnificent large silver twin handled tray by Goldsmith & Silversmith Company Limited, is engraved with the Regimental device and inscription PRESENTED TO CAPT J W AYLMER MC 4TH ROYAL IRISH DRAGOON GUARDS BY HIS BROTHER OFFICERS ON HIS MARRIAGE. Bearing silver hallmarks for London 1918 and maker's stamp of G & S Co. Ltd.
Length 20 1/2 inches, approx. 85.5 Troy Ounces / 2,660 grams Major John Wyndham Aylmer a pre war regular Officer passed through Sandhurst 1908 to 1910. He landed in France with his Regiment as a Lieutenant on 15th August 1914. He was awarded the Military Cross and was Mentioned in Despatches. He married Miss Edith Margaret Loder on 8th August 1918 at the Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Street.
