5th and 26th (Bridgwater) Somerset Volunteer Rifles Victorian Officer pouch belt plate circa 1860-82. Good scarce die-stamped silvered Maltese cross surmounted by a bridge with castle; each arm of the cross with quarter inch border enclosing hobnail design; to the centre 45 within a strap SOMERSET VOLUNTEER RIFLES. One of three lead soldered screw posts to reverse otherwise GC. 45 alludes to Somerset’s precedence in the rifle volunteers. Bob Betts Collection
